LEAD RESEARCH SCIENTIST – PFAS FOCUS

Responsibilities

We are seeking a Lead Research Scientist to join our laboratory treatability testing group in Boise, Idaho.

  • Lead testing to support our clients, expand our services, and provide technical expertise in PFAS removal investigations
  • Work on projects related to all aspects of drinking water, wastewater, and reuse applications with lots of variability from project to project
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and leader for Water ARC®’s Rapid Small-Scale Column Testing (RSSCT) program
  • Manage R&D projects involving RSSCTs for PFAS removal
  • Manage other R&D projects of limited complexity and project duration
  • Simultaneously lead multiple projects of varying complexity and project duration
  • Conduct experiments, investigations, and data generation with little to no supervision
  • Ensure timely completion of routine laboratory maintenance and upkeep including but not limited to tracking inventory, checking in new supplies, and performing regular quality control procedures
  • Apply standard practices and techniques as indicated
  • Lead method development efforts with limited supervision from senior research staff
  • Recognize discrepancies in results and troubleshoot most issues with minimal oversight from senior research staff
  • Make preliminary selections and adaptations of testing alternatives
  • Review date and reports generated by other team members for projects of limited complexity
  • Develop organized research plans, coordinate testing, and prepare reports as needed on assigned tasks
  • Assist clients to ensure requested testing satisfies their needs and make recommendations for test plan alterations based on previous experience
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in one of the following or related fields
    • Environmental, civil, or chemical engineering
    • Biological, chemical, or environmental sciences
  • 3+ years of water- and PFAS-related research experience including testing, operation, organization, management, and resource planning
  • Demonstrated expertise in PFAS treatment technologies, including experience with laboratory methods for testing PFAS removal such as rapid small-scale column testing (RSSCT)
  • Ability to apply engineering principles including critical thinking, problem solving, optimization, and innovation
  • Robust skills in data management/analysis/interpretation, statistics, quality management, and laboratory safety
